Sonam Gurung joined the Himalaya Treks family in 2017, bringing deep roots in the high passes and a quiet confidence that instantly puts travelers at ease. Growing up adjacent to the great trails, he has spent the last seven years guiding expeditions across the Manaslu region, including ascents around Larkya La pass at 5106 meters and technical approaches throughout the Tsum Valley. His intimate knowledge of the terrain ensures that every route is navigated with precision and care, keeping groups safe while maintaining a steady, manageable pace.

Fluent in Nepali, English, and his native Gurung dialect, Sonam bridges the gap between international visitors and the remote mountain communities we visit. Beyond his technical guiding skills, he is known across our team for his meticulous morning gear checks and the small notebook he carries to record changing weather patterns and local flora. Whether explaining the history of an ancient mani wall at 3500 meters or sharing warm tea by the hearth in Samagaon, Sonam approaches every journey with professional dedication and genuine warmth.
