At a glance

Trip overview

We offer an 11-day ascent of Yala Peak, reaching a maximum altitude of 5620 m within the Langtang region of Nepal. This itinerary combines the well-trodden trails of the Langtang Valley Trek with a high-camp push to scale a non-technical trekking peak without requiring formal Nepal Mountaineering Association climbing permits. It suits trekkers with strong physical fitness and basic stamina who wish to experience high-altitude mountaineering without complex technical rope skills.

Our route departs from Syabrubesi, following the Bhote Koshi river through dense forests of oak and rhododendron past Lama Hotel. We ascend gradually through Tamang and Lama settlements, including Langtang village and Kyanjin Gompa, which allows our team proper time for physiological acclimatisation before moving onto the upper glacier moraines.

The terrain shifts from forested river valleys to high alpine scrub and glacial stone. At Kyanjin Gompa, we establish our logistics before moving up to Yala Peak Base Camp at 4600 m in a tented camp. The summit day demands an early start across loose scree and residual snowfields to reach the 5620 m ridgeline, where we view Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and peaks across the Tibetan border.

While this peak involves no vertical rock walls or technical ice climbing, the altitude demands robust cardiovascular endurance. We provide experienced local guides, necessary safety gear, and supportive pacing to ensure our climbers move safely through the thin air.

Good to know

Altitude & Acclimatisation

Ascending to 5620 m places physical stress on the body. Our itinerary includes gradual altitude gains through the Langtang Valley and an overnight stay at Yala Peak Base Camp to help prevent acute mountain sickness.

Fitness & Experience

While Yala Peak requires no technical rock climbing skills, the summit day involves strenuous cardiovascular exertion at high elevation. Strong hiking stamina and prior multi-day trekking experience are essential.

Accommodation & Meals

We stay in local teahouses with twin-share rooms on the trekking legs and set up tented camps at Yala Peak Base Camp. Meals are prepared fresh from lodge menus, while high camp meals are cooked by our support crew.

Weather & Seasonality

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) provide the most stable weather windows with clear morning skies. Temperatures at high camp drop significantly below freezing during the night.
