At a glance

Trip overview

Our eight-day Western Bhutan cultural tour offers a comprehensive journey through the valleys, ancient monasteries, and administrative citadels of the kingdom. We designed this itinerary for travelers seeking an in-depth look at Bhutanese architecture, religious history, and rural landscapes without requiring technical mountaineering skills.

We begin our journey in Paro before transferring to the capital city of Thimphu. From there, our route takes us across mountain passes toward the glacial valley of Phobjikha, known for its rolling hills and traditional villages. We then descend into the warmer Punakha valley, framed by the confluence of the Po Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers, before concluding our travels back in Paro with a hike to Taktsang Monastery.

While this is primarily a cultural tour rather than a high-altitude trek, we include moderate day walks, such as the Gangtey Nature Trail and the steep ascent to Tiger's Nest. These walks involve uneven stone steps and dirt paths, requiring a reasonable level of cardiovascular fitness. Our local guides set a steady, manageable pace to accommodate varying fitness levels throughout the trip.

We accommodate our guests in government-approved 3-star hotels throughout the tour. Rooms are twin-share with private bathrooms, running hot water, and standard dining facilities serving traditional Bhutanese and international dishes.
