Trip overview
Our 15-day Tilicho Lake Trek takes us deep into the Annapurna region, ascending to one of the highest glacial lakes on earth at 4,919 m. This itinerary is specifically designed for trekkers who want to reach Tilicho Lake without tackling the demanding, high-altitude Thorong La pass. We follow the Marsyangdi River valley upstream, transitioning from subtropical forests of oak and rhododendron into the rugged, arid landscapes of the Trans-Himalayan zone.
This trek suits hikers with good physical fitness and some prior multi-day trekking experience. We maintain a deliberate pace with built-in acclimatization days in Manang to ensure safe adaptation to altitude. Along the trail, we pass through traditional Gurung and Manangi settlements, historic monasteries, and yak pastures, gaining authentic insight into mountain life.
Terrain varies from well-maintained stone steps and pine woodlands to narrow paths and scree slopes, particularly around Siri Kharka and Tilicho Base Camp. We stay in local teahouses run by families along the route, enjoying simple local meals and shared communal spaces. Our experienced guides and porters manage all logistics, ensuring our team remains safe, supported, and focused on the journey ahead.

Altitude & acclimatisation
Our itinerary includes a dedicated acclimatization day in Manang at 3,540 m to assist our bodies in adjusting to the thin air. We ascend gradually above 4,000 m toward Siri Kharka and Tilicho Base Camp, allowing our lead guides to monitor everyone for early symptoms of acute mountain sickness.
Teahouse accommodation
We stay in local family-run lodges along the route, providing twin-share rooms with basic wooden beds and foam mattresses. Dining rooms are heated by central stoves in the evenings, though bedrooms are unheated, making a warm sleeping bag essential.
Physical fitness
This trek involves walking for 5 to 7 hours each day over uneven terrain, steep stone staircases, and loose scree paths. We recommend undertaking cardiovascular training and leg-strengthening hikes for several months prior to departure.
Water & hydration
Safe drinking water is available at teahouses in the form of boiled water or filtered supplies. We carry personal refillable bottles and chemical purification tablets or a reliable microfilter to treat natural water sources along the trail.
