Trip overview
Our Tilicho Lake and Mesokanto La Pass trek is a demanding high-altitude journey designed for experienced walkers seeking to bypass the busier paths of the standard Annapurna circuit. We take you deep into the remote western pockets of the Manang Valley, where massive ice walls drop directly into glacial moraines and human settlements become sparse.
The route demands sustained physical effort and sound acclimatisation. We spend several days gaining elevation gradually through Dharapani, Chame, and Pisang before establishing our rhythm in the upper Manang basin. From the village of Khangsar, our trail diverges toward the base of Tilicho Lake, famously cited as one of the highest glacial lakes in the world at 4,919 m.
Beyond the lake, our path enters pure mountain wilderness as we climb toward the high barrier of Mesokanto La Pass at 5,099 m. Crossing this remote divide requires careful pacing and stable weather conditions. We descend on the other side into the Mustang district, passing Nama Phu and Thini Gaon before completing our journey in Jomsom.

The highest point is the summit of Mesokanto La Pass at 5,099 m (16,729 ft).
Do I need previous trekking experience?
Yes, previous high-altitude trekking experience is strongly recommended due to the remote wilderness, steep terrain, and sustained physical demands of crossing Mesokanto La.
What permits are required for this route?
You need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and a Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card, which we arrange for you.
