Trip overview
Our 14-day journey combines the historic Tamang Heritage Trail with the classic alpine route into the upper Langtang Valley. We begin by traversing traditional hillside settlements where indigenous Tamang communities preserve distinct dialects, architecture, and shamanic traditions within Nepal's first Himalayan national park, established in 1976. As we move deeper into the mountains, the landscape shifts from terraced farm slopes and pine forests to glacial moraines and high pastures dominated by peaks such as Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, and Dorje Lakpa.
This itinerary suits hikers who want a balanced mix of cultural immersion and high-altitude mountain trekking. We spend the first week exploring authentic villages like Gatlang, Tatopani, Thuman, and Briddim before joining the Langtang Khola trail upward toward Lama Hotel and Langtang village. We witness the resilience of local families rebuilding after the 2015 earthquake, operating teahouses and welcoming travelers along ancient trade routes.
Physical preparation is necessary for this trek due to the daily walking hours and the altitude gain. While the initial days involve rolling hills and moderate ascents, our route eventually crosses 3830 m at Kyanjin Gompa and reaches our high point at Cherko Ri (5050 m) or Kyanjin Ri (4400 m). We move at a deliberate, measured pace to allow proper acclimatisation, ensuring our team remains safe and strong throughout the traverse.

Good to know
Altitude & acclimatisation
We reach our maximum elevation at Cherko Ri (5050 m). Our itinerary is structured with gradual daily ascents and high sleeping elevations balanced by shorter walking days around Kyanjin Gompa to help our bodies adjust.
Our guides carry pulse oximeters and first aid kits. If any team member shows persistent symptoms of acute mountain sickness, our guides coordinate immediate descent protocols.
Fitness expectations
This is rated as an easy-to-moderate trek, but participants should be comfortable walking 5 to 8 hours daily over uneven stone steps, suspension bridges, and steep mountain paths.
We recommend starting cardiovascular training, stair climbing, and regular weekend hikes at least two months prior to departure to ensure an enjoyable experience on the trail.
Teahouse accommodation
We stay in local mountain lodges managed by resident families along the trail. Rooms are basic twin-share setups with wooden beds, foam mattresses, and blankets.
Dining halls are heated by central stoves in the evenings, but bedrooms are unheated. Bringing a warm sleeping bag rated to -15°C is essential for comfortable nights.
Meals and drinking water
Our package includes three full meals daily. Menus feature traditional dal bhat, noodles, soups, momos, and porridge, providing the carbohydrates needed for daily trekking.
We advise purifying tap water using iodine tablets, chlorine drops, or a reliable water filter rather than relying solely on bottled water to reduce plastic waste in the national park.
