Trip overview
Our five-day Short Langtang Trek is designed for hikers who want to experience the high Himalaya within a strict timeframe. Leaving Kathmandu by road, we descend into the Langtang river valley and follow ancient trade routes that once connected Nepal to Tibet. The route moves from subtropical riverbanks through dense oak and rhododendron woods before breaking out into high alpine pastures beneath towering snow-clad summits.
This itinerary suits walkers with a solid level of cardiovascular fitness who are comfortable with sustained daily effort. Although the maximum elevation of 3,870m at Kyanjin Gompa is lower than other major Nepali routes, the daily vertical gain requires steady pacing and preparation. We stay in local family-run teahouses along the trail, eating simple dal bhat and sleeping under sturdy blankets as night temperatures drop.
We lead every departure with experienced, government-licensed mountain guides who know the local terrain and monitor our team for signs of altitude fatigue. Langtang National Park protects rich wildlife habitats here, and with attentive observation we may spot barking deer or langur monkeys moving through the canopy. Our focus remains on safe progression, cultural respect, and genuine immersion in the mountain environment.

Altitude & acclimatisation
We reach our highest point at 3,870m at Kyanjin Gompa. While this altitude is lower than Everest or Annapurna base camp routes, acute mountain sickness can still occur if we ascend too rapidly. We maintain a controlled pace, stay hydrated, and monitor every team member daily.
Teahouse accommodation
Lodges along the Langtang route are family-run mountain inns offering basic twin-share wooden rooms with foam mattresses and blankets. Dining rooms are heated by a central stove, but individual bedrooms are unheated, so a warm sleeping bag is essential.
Physical conditioning
This itinerary involves daily walking durations of 5 to 7 hours over uneven stone steps, loose soil, and steep ascents. We recommend undertaking cardiovascular training and stair-climbing exercises several weeks prior to departure.
Meals and water safety
Our package includes three daily meals featuring standard teahouse fare such as dal bhat, noodle soups, momos, and porridge. We advise against drinking untreated tap water, so we use water purification tablets or purchase boiled water along the way.
