Trip overview
Our Everest helicopter tour offers a direct route to the foot of Mount Everest without the multi-day physical demands of trekking. We designed this single-morning flight for travellers who want to witness the highest peaks in the Khumbu region but have limited time or prefer not to hike.
The flight departs Kathmandu before dawn, refuels at Lukla at 2,860 m, and traces the deep valleys carved by the Dudh Koshi. We fly over Namche Bazaar and Tengboche before landing at Pheriche (4,240 m), which serves as our staging point. Because the thin air at altitude limits helicopter payload, we shuttle passengers up to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) in pairs. Each pair spends approximately ten minutes at the viewpoint for clear sights of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the Khumbu Icefall.
While this tour involves no walking on steep trails, we want guests to be aware of the sudden change in altitude. The short duration at 5,545 m brings thin air into play, and our experienced guides manage the rotation strictly to ensure safe exposure limits. Spring and autumn offer the most reliable weather windows for clear mountain visibility.

Day 1
Kathmandu to Kala Patthar and Back
Meals: B
Our morning begins with a hotel pickup in Kathmandu (1,400 m) before dawn to reach the domestic terminal. We board our helicopter and fly east towards the Khumbu, landing briefly at Lukla (2,860 m) to refuel alongside the short mountain runway. From here, we continue up the valley past Namche Bazaar and Tengboche, following the course of the Dudh Koshi before landing at Pheriche (4,240 m).
At Pheriche, our pilot sets up the rotation shuttle required by high-altitude weight limits. We fly up to Kala Patthar (5,545 m) in pairs, spending roughly ten minutes at the rocky outcrop to view Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Pumori. After all passengers complete the rotation, we reassemble at Pheriche, stop once more at Lukla for fuel, and fly back to Kathmandu to conclude the morning.

Good to know
Altitude & acclimatisation
Although this tour involves zero physical trekking, we land at 5,545 m on Kala Patthar. The rapid gain in altitude means most passengers feel mild effects of thin air during the ten-minute stop. We limit time at the top strictly and manage descents promptly to ensure guest safety.
Best time to fly
We run flights primarily during the spring months of March to May and the autumn months of September to November. These seasons provide the most stable meteorological windows and clear morning skies required for safe mountain navigation.
Weight limits & seating
Helicopter performance at high elevations demands strict adherence to payload restrictions. From our staging stop at Pheriche, the aircraft flies only two passengers at a time to Kala Patthar, and our crew coordinates all seating arrangements based on individual passenger weights.
Weather cancellations
Himalayan weather shifts rapidly at any time of year. If heavy cloud cover or high winds force a cancellation, we reschedule your flight or issue a full refund after deducting standard airport transfer costs.

Frequently asked questions
How long do we stay at Kala Patthar?
We limit each pair's time at Kala Patthar to about ten minutes. This ensures safe exposure limits to the thin air at 5,545 m and keeps the rotation schedule moving.
Why does the helicopter shuttle passengers from Pheriche?
Thin air at high altitudes reduces a helicopter's lifting capacity. We fly as a full group to Pheriche (4,240 m) and then complete the final leg to Kala Patthar in pairs.
What happens if weather conditions turn bad?
Mountain weather can be unpredictable. If your flight is grounded due to safety concerns, we will reschedule it or provide a full refund minus airport transfer costs.
Do I need a permit for the helicopter tour?
Yes, local municipality fees and national park entry permits apply to visitors entering the Khumbu region, though these are typically handled as part of our comprehensive ground arrangements.
Is there any physical hiking involved?
No. The tour requires zero trekking. You step straight from the helicopter onto the ground at Kala Patthar.
What should I wear for the flight?
We recommend warm down jackets, windproof layers, sunglasses, and sturdy shoes, as temperatures at 5,545 m are significantly colder than in Kathmandu.
