We lead an unexplored route through eastern Nepal along the Milke Danda ridge, traversing dense rhododendron forests and high pastures.

At a glance

Trip overview

We run this 11-day trek along the Milke Danda ridge in eastern Nepal, a lesser-traversed route that separates the Tamur and Arun river valleys. Unlike the congested trails of the Annapurna or Everest regions, this path offers quiet walking through extensive woodland nature trails and high pastures. The terrain ranges from subtropical valleys up to 3,660 m on the Milke Ridge, passing through settlements where indigenous communities maintain traditional livelihoods.

This trek suits hikers who have some multi-day mountain walking experience and want to escape the main tourist corridors. We walk through the largest diversity of rhododendron species in Nepal, which bloom into deep reds and pinks during the spring months. The physical grading is easy to moderate, though daily walking hours reach up to seven hours on the higher ridge sections, requiring steady stamina.

Weather conditions along the eastern ridges demand reliable gear and preparation for shifting alpine climates. Throughout the journey, our lead guide manages pacing and acclimatisation as we gain elevation from the lower hills toward the high viewpoints. We handle all logistics, permits, and teahouse arrangements so our teams can focus entirely on the trail.
