At a glance
Trip overview
Our twelve-day journey combines two distinct landscapes in the Annapurna Conservation Area. We begin by climbing the stone staircase to Ulleri and ascending to the ridge of Poon Hill, before traversing off the main tourist tracks toward the forested paths leading up to Mardi Himal. This route suits trekkers who want both the classic panoramic viewpoints of the southern Annapurna sanctuary and the quieter, ridge-walking experience of the lesser-traveled eastern flanks.
We walk through dense rhododendron and oak forests, cross suspension bridges over turbulent mountain streams, and stay in local teahouses run by Gurung and Magar communities. As we gain altitude past Forest Camp and High Camp, the vegetation thins out into alpine scrub, revealing close-up profiles of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Mardi Himal itself.
While the itinerary does not cross high technical passes, our daily walking times of five to seven hours and the final climb to the 4200 m upper viewpoint demand consistent cardiovascular fitness. We maintain a deliberate, steady pace to ensure proper acclimatisation as we ascend into the thinner mountain air.

Before you go
Good to know
Altitude & acclimatisation
Our itinerary reaches a maximum elevation of 4200 m at the Mardi Himal upper viewpoint. We maintain a gradual ascent profile to let your body adjust naturally, but you should monitor yourself for any symptoms of altitude sickness.
Our lead guide carries a pulse oximeter and a first aid kit with basic medications. If severe symptoms appear, our standard protocol is an immediate descent to a lower elevation.
Fitness expectations
This is classified as a moderate trek with daily walking durations between five and seven hours. You will encounter steep stone staircases, uneven tree roots, and narrow ridge paths.
We strongly recommend a cardiovascular training routine involving stair climbing and long walks with a daypack for at least two months prior to departure.
Teahouse accommodation
We stay in family-run lodges along the trail, which provide twin-share rooms with wooden beds, foam mattresses, and blankets. Facilities are basic and bathrooms are generally shared.
Hot showers and device charging are usually available for a small extra fee set by the lodge owners. Dining rooms are heated by a central stove fueled by wood or dried dung.
Drinking water
Bottled water creates significant plastic waste in the mountains, so we advise bringing a reusable Nalgene or metal bottle along with reliable purification tablets or a UV purifier.
You can purchase boiled water at teahouses along the route, which our team can help refill for you at designated stops.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need previous mountaineering experience for this trek?
No technical climbing experience is required. The route involves walking on well-established trails and stone staircases, though the final push to the upper viewpoint requires walking on narrow ridge paths.
How heavy should my daypack be?
Keep your personal daypack between 5 kg and 7 kg, containing only your water, rain gear, warm layers, and valuables. Our porters carry the main duffel bag.
Are ATM machines available along the trail?
There are no working ATMs past Pokhara. You must carry sufficient cash in Nepalese Rupees for your entire trek to cover hot showers, charging, and snacks.
What is the weight limit for porter bags?
We assign one porter to share between every two trekkers, with a combined duffel bag weight limit of 20 kg total (10 kg per person).
Can I charge my phone and camera batteries in the lodges?
Yes, most teahouses offer charging facilities in the dining hall, though they charge a small hourly fee since power relies on solar panels or small generators.
What kind of food is served in the teahouses?
Menus feature standard mountain fare including dal bhat (rice, lentils, and vegetable curry), noodle soups, momos, fried rice, and pancake breakfasts.
