At a glance

Trip overview

Standing at 6,119 m above sea level in the Khumbu region of Nepal, Lobuche East is a structured mountaineering objective that bridges high-altitude trekking and technical peak climbing. Our 20-day expedition is designed for trekkers and climbers looking to test their capabilities in the high alpine environment without requiring prior advanced technical climbing experience. We approach the peak via the classic Everest Base Camp route, ensuring our teams build necessary red-blood-cell count and cardiovascular resilience before stepping onto the mountain's glacier slopes.

Our lead guides oversee every logistic and safety measure, from fixing ropes to managing daily acclimatisation schedules. The terrain shifts from pine and rhododendron forests along the Dudh Koshi river to barren moraines, glacial ice, and snow ridges. While technical difficulties are moderate, the altitude demands a high level of cardiovascular fitness and mental endurance. We maintain small team ratios to ensure personalised attention and responsive decision-making as weather and conditions change on the upper mountain.

This itinerary incorporates structured rest days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, plus a dedicated pre-climb training session at Lobuche Base Camp. Here, our sherpa guides instruct participants in efficient crampon movement, ice axe self-arrest, and fixed-line ascending techniques. Whether you are building a foundation for 8,000-metre peaks or seeking a standalone Himalayan summit, our team provides the logistical depth and mountain leadership required for a safe ascent.

Altitude & acclimatisation

This expedition reaches 6,119 m at the summit of Lobuche East, with sustained days spent above 4,000 m. Our itinerary is carefully structured with gradual elevation gains and rest days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to facilitate safe physiological adaptation. Our lead guides monitor heart rates and daily health indicators throughout the climb.

Technical requirements

Lobuche East is classified as a trekking peak and does not require advanced ice-climbing grades. However, you must be comfortable using crampons, an ice axe, and ascending devices on steep snow and rock ridges. We conduct a mandatory training session at base camp before summit day to ensure all climbers are proficient.

Teahouse and camping accommodation

During the approach trek to Lobuche and the return from Pheriche, we stay in local stone teahouses offering twin-share rooms with basic foam mattresses and blankets. While at Lobuche Base Camp for the climb, we sleep in expedition-grade tents managed by our support crew.

Insurance requirements

Comprehensive travel insurance that explicitly covers mountaineering and high-altitude emergency helicopter rescue up to 6,200 m is mandatory for all participants. You must provide policy details to our office prior to trip departure.

How cold does it get on the mountain?

Temperatures at Lobuche Base Camp and on the summit ridge frequently drop well below freezing, especially at night and during early morning summit pushes, often reaching -10°C to -20°C.
