At a glance
Trip overview
We guide trekkers into the alpine landscapes of Langtang National Park, located north of Kathmandu. This eight-day route follows the Bhote Koshi and Langtang rivers upward through rhododendron forests, past earthquake-resilient villages, and into the glacial amphitheatre beneath Langtang Lirung at 7324 m. Our path takes us off heavily commercialized trails while remaining accessible to those with solid hill-walking fitness.
The region is culturally distinct, populated predominantly by Tamang communities whose heritage links closely with Tibetan traditions. We pass centuries-old mani walls, prayer wheels, and active monasteries such as the gompa at Kyanjin. Unlike higher-altitude circuits, our itinerary keeps maximum daily exertion manageable while still granting access to high alpine terrain, yak pastures, and dramatic glacier moraines.
We maintain realistic pacing to ensure proper acclimatization as we approach our high point of 3870 m at Kyanjin Gompa, with an optional day-hike option to higher viewpoints for those wanting extended vistas. Accommodation is provided in local family-run teahouses serving traditional Nepalese dal bhat and hot drinks.
