Trip overview
Our sixteen-day traverse of the Langtang region combines the high glacial sanctuary of Kyanjin Gompa with the pilgrimage trails of Gosaikunda and the forested ridges of Helambu. We begin our route from Syabrubesi, following the roaring Langtang River upstream through dense bamboo and rhododendron forests before breaking out into the wide, glaciated valley floor beneath Langtang Lirung and Ganesh Himal. This itinerary suits experienced walkers who are comfortable with consecutive days of uphill hiking and high-altitude sleeping.
As we move past Lama Hotel and Mundu, we enter territory inhabited primarily by Tamang communities whose stone-built villages, mani walls, and ancient gompas reflect deep Tibetan cultural roots. Our acclimatisation day at Kyanjin Gompa allows us to ascend Chorkari Ri to 5,050 m, testing our lungs against thin air while taking in panoramic views of icefalls and hanging glaciers.
Leaving the valley behind, our route turns south toward the high wilderness of Langtang National Park. We climb past Shin Gompa and approach the glacial basin of Gosaikunda, where dark blue lakes are held sacred by both Hindus and Buddhists. Crossing the high gravel path of Lauribina La at 4,610 m demands steady pacing and careful attention to weather conditions before we descend through the greener, rolling hills of the Helambu region back toward Kathmandu.

Good to know
Altitude & Acclimatisation
This trek reaches a maximum height of 4,610 m at Lauribina La, with an optional excursion to 5,050 m at Chorkari Ri. Our itinerary is specifically paced with dedicated rest days to allow safe adaptation to lower oxygen levels.
Our guides carry pulse oximeters and monitor each participant daily. If symptoms of acute mountain sickness appear, our team is trained to manage immediate descent protocols.
Accommodation & Facilities
We stay in local family-run teahouses along the trail. Rooms are basic twin-share spaces furnished with wooden beds, foam mattresses, and blankets, requiring you to bring your own sleeping bag.
Bathroom facilities are typically shared and located outside the main dining hall. Hot showers and device-charging options are available in most villages for a small extra fee.
Physical Preparation
Trekkers should be prepared for daily walking durations of 5 to 7 hours over uneven stone steps, rocky paths, and high mountain passes. Prior cardiovascular training and multi-day hiking experience are strongly recommended.
Carrying a daypack containing your water, layers, and rain gear while ascending steep inclines requires solid leg strength and good stamina.
Meals & Drinking Water
Teahouse menus offer a mix of traditional Nepali dal bhat, noodle dishes, momos, and basic western items like porridge and pancakes. Meals are prepared fresh using locally sourced ingredients where possible.
We advise against drinking untreated tap or stream water. Our guides provide chlorine tablets or iodine drops, and boiled water can be purchased at each teahouse.
