Trip overview

We have designed this helicopter tour for travelers who want to experience the high Himalaya without spending days on foot. Our flight departs from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, taking us north across the mid-hills toward the glaciated valleys of the Langtang region.

As we fly over Langtang National Park, we track above pristine river gorges, dense oak and rhododendron forests, and high-altitude alpine terrain. Our route includes a landing near the sacred waters of Gosaikunda Lake, followed by a second stop at the Tamang settlement of Kyanjin Gompa.

This itinerary suits travelers with limited time or those seeking to complement a longer trekking schedule with an aerial perspective. Our experienced pilots navigate the mountain corridors, pointing out major summits such as Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa, and Ganesh Himal throughout the flight.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Kathmandu to Gosaikunda Lake and Kyanjin Gompa

Meals: B

We transfer you from your hotel to Tribhuvan International Airport in the morning to board our chartered helicopter. As we lift off, our pilot points out the geographic features of the Kathmandu Valley before we ascend north toward the high Himalaya. The terrain shifts rapidly from cultivated terraces to rugged, rocky ridges as we approach our first landing site at Gosaikunda Lake.

After spending time at the lake shore, we re-board the aircraft and fly across the upper valley to Kyanjin Gompa. Here, we walk among the stone houses of the Tamang village, observing local monasteries and glaciers before completing our return flight back to Kathmandu.

Before you go

Good to know

Best time to visit

We operate these helicopter tours primarily during the spring months of March to May and the autumn-to-winter period from September to December. These months typically provide stable weather windows and clear visibility of the snow-capped peaks.

Altitude considerations

Our flight reaches high elevations quickly, landing near Gosaikunda Lake and Kyanjin Gompa where thin air can cause mild symptoms. We keep ground time brief at these elevated stops to ensure passenger comfort.

Weight limits and luggage

Helicopter performance is strictly governed by weight and balance limitations at high altitudes. We request that passengers adhere to standard baggage limits as advised by our operations team prior to departure.

Weather dependency

Mountain weather in Nepal can change without warning, and flight safety remains our primary operational priority. In the event of cloud cover or high winds, we may need to delay departure until conditions improve.

Frequently asked questions

What is the maximum passenger capacity per helicopter?

Our charter helicopters typically accommodate up to 5 passengers, depending on the combined weight and prevailing altitude density restrictions.

How long do we spend on the ground during the stops?

We generally spend about 10 to 15 minutes at each landing site, such as Gosaikunda Lake and Kyanjin Gompa, to allow for photography and viewing while managing altitude exposure.

What happens if the flight is canceled due to bad weather?

If weather prevents us from flying on your scheduled day, we will work with you to reschedule the flight for the next available day or provide a full refund.

Do I need any special permits for this helicopter tour?

Our team handles the necessary national park entry permissions and flight clearances as part of our operational service.

What should I wear during the helicopter tour?

We recommend dressing in warm layers, including a windproof jacket and sunglasses, as temperatures at the high-altitude landing sites can be significantly colder than in Kathmandu.

Is oxygen available on board the helicopter?

Yes, our aircraft carry emergency oxygen systems for safety, though most passengers experience no adverse effects during the brief ground stops.
