We trek into the remote eastern wilderness of Nepal to reach the foot of the world’s third-highest peak at Pang Pema.

At a glance

Trip overview

Our Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek leads us into the remote, restricted eastern frontier of Nepal to stand beneath the sheer north face of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586 m). This 17-day journey offers a semi-circuit experience focused primarily on the dramatic North Base Camp, known locally as Pang Pema. We traverse deep river valleys, ancient forests, and high-altitude glacial terrain far removed from the busier paths of the Khumbu or Annapurna regions.

This route is suited for experienced trekkers who value solitude, raw wilderness, and cultural authenticity over modern comforts. The trail takes us through isolated settlements inside the Kanchenjunga National Park, a protected sanctuary that spans alpine meadows and dense rhododendron forests. We stay in basic, family-run teahouses where we share simple meals and experience local mountain life.

While the physical grading is moderate, the primary challenge remains altitude gain, with our high point reaching 5140 m at Pang Pema. We have designed our itinerary with dedicated acclimatization days, specifically in Khambachen, to allow our bodies to adjust safely to the thinning air. Our lead guides bring extensive local knowledge to navigate remote terrain, unpredictable mountain weather, and high-altitude conditions.
