Trip overview
Our 15-day Gokyo Lake Luxury Trek takes us deep into the Khumbu region, following historic trading paths alongside the Dudh Koshi River before branching toward the pristine alpine waters of the Gokyo Valley. We designed this itinerary for hikers who appreciate a demanding mountain route paired with comfortable evening accommodations, staying in luxury lodges in Lukla, Phakding, Namche Bazaar, and the Everest View Hotel, and the best available en-suite guesthouses further along the trail in Dole, Machhermo, and Gokyo.
We begin our journey with a flight from Kathmandu to Tenzing Hillary Airport in Lukla, entering Sagarmatha National Park as we climb past pine and rhododendron forests. Along the way, we cross high suspension bridges and pass through Sherpa settlements like Khumjung, Phortse Thanga, and Machhermo. The route demands respect for altitude, requiring steady pacing as we ascend past 4,000 metres and onto the terminal moraine of the massive Ngozumpa Glacier.
The physical effort culminates in our pre-dawn ascent of Gokyo Ri at 5,360 m, where we stand above the glacial lakes to view Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. Our team of experienced guides and porters manages the logistics, safety protocols, and daily pacing, ensuring we reach our high camps properly acclimatised and well-fed.
