Trip overview
Our Everest Two Passes Trek is designed for hikers who want to bypass the heavy traffic of the standard out-and-back route and experience the Khumbu region in its entirety. By looping through the high valleys of Gokyo and crossing two major mountain passes—Renjo La (5,360 m) and Cho La (5,420 m)—we bring you face-to-face with the high wilderness of Sagarmatha National Park while still reaching the foot of Mount Everest at 5,364 m.
This itinerary suits experienced walkers with a strong base of cardiovascular fitness and mental resilience. We spend multiple days walking above 4,000 m, where the thin air demands a steady, measured pace. Our route takes us past turquoise glacial lakes, across active moraines, and through ancient Sherpa settlements such as Thame, Khumjung, and Pangboche, offering a balanced combination of high-altitude alpine challenge and deep cultural immersion.
We approach this circuit in a clockwise direction to optimize acclimatization before crossing the passes. Nights are spent in family-run mountain teahouses where we gather around central stoves for warmth and hearty meals of dal bhat, noodles, and garlic soup. While the physical demands are real, our experienced local guides and porters manage the logistics so that you can focus entirely on the trail ahead.

Good to know
Altitude & Acclimatisation
Altitude sickness is a real risk on any trek exceeding 5,000 m. Our itinerary incorporates structured acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Gokyo to help your body adapt to the decreasing air pressure and oxygen levels.
Our guides monitor every member of the group daily for early symptoms of acute mountain sickness. Descending immediately is the only effective treatment if severe symptoms appear, and our team carries pulse oximeters and basic medical support.
Teahouse Accommodation
Lodges along the Everest Two Passes route are family-run mountain inns offering basic twin-share rooms with wooden beds, foam mattresses, and pillows. Facilities become more rustic as you gain altitude, with shared, external bathrooms and unheated rooms.
Dining rooms are communal and heated by a central stove burning yak dung or wood. Charging devices and hot showers are generally available at higher altitudes for an extra local fee.
Physical Fitness
This trek requires solid endurance and strength, with typical daily walking times ranging from six to eight hours over rugged terrain. You should prepare with consistent cardiovascular exercise, stair climbing, and weighted day-hikes for several months prior to arrival in Nepal.
Mental toughness is equally important when facing cold mornings, long uphill stretches, and the physical strain of walking above 5,000 m.
Travel Insurance
All participants must carry comprehensive travel insurance that explicitly covers emergency helicopter evacuation up to 6,000 m and high-altitude trekking. We require a copy of your policy documents before departure from Kathmandu.
Rescue operations in the Khumbu depend heavily on weather conditions, so having a policy with direct billing arrangements to rescue providers saves critical time in an emergency.
