At a glance

Trip overview

Our Everest Short Trek is designed for travelers who want to experience the high Khumbu without committing to the full two-week journey to base camp. Over seven days, our team leads you through the alpine valleys of Sagarmatha National Park, a protected UNESCO World Heritage site defined by deep river gorges, pine forests, and towering Himalayan peaks.

We have paced this itinerary specifically to allow safe acclimatisation while keeping daily walking times manageable at four to six hours. Starting with the mountain flight into Lukla at 2,820 m, our route climbs gradually through Phakding and up the steep switchbacks to Namche Bazaar, the historic trading hub of the region.

Beyond Namche, we spend a day exploring the high Sherpa settlements of Khunde and Khumjung before ascending to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m. Here, our guests enjoy unobstructed panoramas of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Ama Dablam while sipping tea. This route suits hikers with moderate fitness levels who are comfortable with sustained ascents and descents on stone-paved mountain trails.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1

Flight to Lukla and Trek to Phakding

Meals: B

Our morning begins with a short thirty-five-minute mountain flight from Kathmandu to Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla at 2,820 m. After meeting our porters, we set off on a gentle, gradual trail alongside the Dudh Kosi River, passing through small Sherpa farm settlements before reaching our lodge in Phakding at 2,640 m.

Day 2

Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Meals: B / L / D

Today our route heads north, crossing several suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi and entering Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo. After checking permits at the park gate, we cross the Hillary Suspension Bridge and begin the long, steep climb up the forested ridge to Namche Bazaar at 3,440 m.

Day 3

Acclimatisation Day in Namche Bazaar

Meals: B / L / D

We take a scheduled rest day in Namche Bazaar to allow our bodies to adjust to the 3,440 m elevation. Our lead guide takes the group on a short morning hike toward the park headquarters and the Sherpa culture museum for early morning views of the surrounding peaks.

Day 4

Namche to Khumjung and Everest View Hotel

Meals: B / L / D

We leave Namche and climb toward the high glacial valley holding the twin villages of Khunde and Khumjung, where we visit local monasteries. Afterward, we continue upward to the Everest View Hotel at 3,880 m, our highest elevation, to share tea while watching the light shift across Everest and Ama Dablam.

Day 5

Khumjung to Monjo via Namche Bazaar

Meals: B / L / D

After breakfast, our team retraces our steps down through Khumjung and back past Namche Bazaar. We descend steadily down the steep forest stairs, cross the suspension bridges over the river, and complete our seven-hour trek at the lower village of Monjo at 2,880 m.

Day 6

Monjo to Lukla

Meals: B / L / D

Our final walking day takes us back along the familiar banks of the Dudh Kosi River through Phakding and Ghat. We finish with a steady afternoon pull back up to Lukla airstrip, where our team enjoys a final evening together with our porters.

Day 7

Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu

Meals: B

We rise early for the short flight from Tenzing-Hillary Airport back to Kathmandu, weather permitting. Our transport will be waiting at the domestic terminal to return you to your hotel, concluding our service.

Before you go

Good to know

Altitude & acclimatisation

Our highest overnight elevation is 3,440 m at Namche Bazaar, with a daytime high point of 3,880 m at the Everest View Hotel. We build a dedicated acclimatisation day into our schedule at Namche to mitigate the risks of acute mountain sickness.

Mountain flights

Flights between Kathmandu and Lukla are subject to changing weather conditions in the mountains. We always advise our guests to build two or three extra buffer days into their total international travel schedule to account for potential flight delays.

Teahouse accommodation

We lodge in family-run mountain teahouses along the route, providing twin-share rooms with basic mattresses, pillows, and blankets. Dining areas are communal and heated by a central stove burning yak dung or wood.

Physical preparation

This trip involves daily walks of four to six hours over uneven stone steps, suspension bridges, and steep ascents. We recommend cardiovascular training such as running, cycling, or stair-climbing for at least two months prior to departure.
