Trip overview
Our Everest High Passes Trek is a demanding 22-day expedition through the high valleys of the Khumbu. We designed this route for experienced hikers who want a complete circuit of the region rather than a standard out-and-back trail. By crossing three distinct high mountain passes—Kongma La at 5,335 m, Cho La at 5,420 m, and Renjo La at 5,360 m—we connect the isolated valleys of Chhukung, Lobuche, Dragnak, and Gokyo while also visiting Everest Base Camp and the viewpoints of Kala Patthar and Gokyo Ri.
We spend our days walking along the Dudh Koshi River, through Sagarmatha National Park, and past ancient Sherpa villages like Tengboche and Thame. The terrain ranges from pine forests and rocky moraines to snow-covered high passes and glacial ice. We sleep in local teahouses each night, sharing common dining rooms with other climbers and locals.
This itinerary demands robust physical fitness and a high tolerance for cold, thin air. We build acclimatization days into our schedule in Namche Bazaar and Chhukung to help our team adjust safely to elevations exceeding 5,000 m. Weather conditions can change rapidly on the passes, requiring flexibility and careful pacing from our lead guides.

Good to know
Altitude & acclimatisation
Our itinerary includes dedicated acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Chhukung, plus gradual ascents above 4,000 m. Our guides monitor team members daily with pulse oximeters and carry supplemental oxygen and medical kits for emergency use.
Teahouse accommodation
We stay in mountain lodges run by local families. Rooms are basic with twin wooden beds and foam mattresses. Dining rooms are heated by central yak-dung or wood stoves, but bedrooms are unheated, so a warm sleeping bag is essential.
Lukla flight logistics
Flights between Kathmandu (or Manthali Airport during peak spring and autumn seasons) and Lukla are weather-dependent. We build contingency time into our schedules, but delays of a few hours or even a full day can occur in the mountains.
Physical fitness
This is a strenuous trek with multiple days walking 6 to 8 hours at high altitude over steep, rocky terrain. Prior multi-day hiking experience with a backpack is required before joining this trip.

Frequently asked questions
How difficult is the Everest High Passes Trek?
This is one of our most strenuous tea-house treks. It involves crossing three high passes above 5,300 m, long walking days on rough terrain, and cold nighttime temperatures.
What is the highest elevation we reach?
Our highest overnight stay is at Gorak Shep (5,164 m) or Lobuche (4,910 m), while our highest daytime high points are Chhukung Ri (5,550 m) and Kala Patthar (5,545 m).
Do I need microspikes for the high passes?
Yes. Kongma La, Cho Lu, and Renjo La often have icy sections, especially in the morning or shoulder seasons. We require lightweight microspikes and trekking poles.
What happens if our Lukla flight is delayed?
Mountain weather can disrupt flights. We carry buffer time in our itinerary, but we advise keeping a few contingency days at the end of your trip for international departures.
Are meals and drinking water included on the trek?
All three daily meals are included. Boiled or filtered drinking water can be purchased along the trail; we recommend carrying purification tablets or a UV purifier.
How much weight can my porter carry?
We assign one porter for every two team members, with a combined weight limit of 25 kg (about 55 lbs), meaning 12.5 kg per trekker in the duffel bag.
