Trip overview
We have designed this 15-day itinerary for trekkers who want to experience the high Khumbu without joining the main Everest Base Camp highway. Our route diverges past Namche Bazaar, heading north up the Dudh Koshi valley toward Dole and Machhermo before reaching the pristine glacial waters of Gokyo. This path offers an alternative perspective on the world's highest peaks while taking us through authentic Sherpa settlements and alpine grazing pastures.
The trek suits hikers with solid cardiovascular fitness and previous multi-day mountain experience. We cross rugged moraine terrain, walk alongside the massive Ngozumpa Glacier, and climb to high altitude vantage points where the scale of Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Everest becomes apparent. Proper pacing is essential as we ascend above 4,000 m, and our lead guides monitor daily health indicators closely.
We spend two nights in Namche Bazaar to aid acclimatisation, giving our bodies time to adjust to the thinner air before we push higher into the valley. Teahouses along the route provide warm dining rooms and twin-share rooms, offering a comfortable place to rest after each day's walking. We handle all logistics, from domestic flights and permits to daily meal planning, allowing our groups to focus entirely on the trail.

Good to know
Altitude & Acclimatisation
We reach a maximum elevation of 5,360 m at Gokyo Ri. Our itinerary includes intentional rest days in Namche Bazaar and gradual daily altitude gains to help your body adapt safely to the decreasing oxygen levels.
Our guides carry pulse oximeters and monitor every team member daily for early signs of acute mountain sickness. Descending is the primary treatment for severe symptoms, and our guides are trained to manage emergency evacuations if necessary.
Teahouse Accommodation
Lodges along the Gokyo route provide basic twin-share rooms with wooden beds, foam mattresses, and blankets. You must bring your own sleeping bag rated to at least -15 °C.
Dining rooms are heated by central yak-dung or wood stoves in the evenings, but bedrooms are unheated. Charging devices and hot showers usually incur small extra fees set by local lodge owners.
Mountain Flights
Flights between Kathmandu (or Manthali) and Lukla are weather-dependent and subject to delay or cancellation during unstable meteorological conditions. We advise building contingency days into your international flight schedule.
Physical Fitness
This trek involves 5 to 7 hours of walking per day over uneven stone steps, moraine ridges, and steep ascents. Prior hill-walking experience and cardiovascular conditioning over several months before departure are essential.
