Trip overview
We lead this comprehensive 20-day expedition for mountaineers and experienced trekkers seeking to combine the high-altitude trek to Everest Base Camp with the summit climb of Imja Tse, widely known as Island Peak, at 6,189 m. Our route follows the traditional trading paths of the Khumbu region, ascending past the monasteries of Tengboche and the glacial moraines of Gorakshep before transitioning into alpine climbing territory.
This itinerary is specifically designed for participants who have solid multi-day hiking experience and wish to step into Himalayan mountaineering. We incorporate dedicated acclimatization days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, as well as high-altitude training sessions before the final push to the summit of Island Peak. The climbing phase involves glacier travel, fixed ropes, and an exposed ridge walk under the south face of Lhotse.
We provide experienced climbing guides and sherpa support throughout the technical sections. While the trekking days demand strong cardiovascular endurance, the climbing phase requires familiarity with crampons and ascenders. We keep group sizes manageable to ensure safety and personalized support across the crevasses and steep snow slopes of the upper mountain.

Climbing experience requirements
Island Peak is considered a trekking peak, but it involves glacier travel, steep snow slopes up to 45 degrees, and an exposed final ridge. We require participants to have solid cardiovascular endurance and previous experience walking in crampons on multi-day mountain itineraries.
Altitude acclimatisation
Our itinerary incorporates deliberate rest and acclimatisation stops in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, as well as a high-altitude training session at Island Peak Base Camp. We monitor our team daily for symptoms of acute mountain sickness.
Teahouse and camping accommodation
We accommodate our team in local teahouses along the Everest Base Camp trekking route and switch to expedition tented camps during the Island Peak climbing phase. Meals are freshly prepared by our kitchen crew while camping.
Luggage and porter limits
Our porters carry main duffel bags with a strict weight limit of 9 kg per trekker. We ask that you pack all essential climbing gear and daily layers in a separate daypack that you carry yourself while walking.

Frequently asked questions
What climbing gear do I need to bring for Island Peak?
We provide ropes and group climbing hardware, but you must bring mountaineering boots, crampons, a harness, an ice axe, a helmet, and suitable technical clothing. We verify all personal equipment during our preparation day in Kathmandu.
Do I need previous mountaineering experience for Island Peak?
While technical prior experience is helpful, it is not strictly mandatory because we conduct a pre-summit training day at Island Peak Base Camp. However, you must be comfortable walking in crampons and have strong trekking fitness.
How are the weather conditions on the Everest Base Camp and Island Peak route?
Spring and autumn bring stable weather, but mountain temperatures drop well below freezing at night, particularly above Dingboche and at Island Peak Base Camp. Winds can be strong on the upper ridge during summit night.
What happens if our Lukla flight is delayed?
Mountain weather in Lukla frequently causes flight delays or cancellations. We maintain contingency days in our itinerary and can arrange helicopter charters if necessary, though additional helicopter costs are borne by the traveler.
Are there communications and charging facilities on the trail?
Most teahouses along the Everest Base Camp route offer electricity for charging devices and Wi-Fi access for an additional fee. These services are not available once we reach the tented camp at Island Peak.
What water sources are available during the trek?
We discourage buying bottled water on the trail to reduce plastic waste. We provide boiled or treated water from teahouses, and we advise bringing your own water purification tablets or filter.
