Trip overview

Our two-day hike from Dhulikhel to Balthali Village offers an accessible escape into the rural hills surrounding the Kathmandu Valley. We designed this route for travelers who want to experience traditional village life, local Newari architecture, and quiet forested trails without committing to a high-altitude mountain expedition. The journey combines comfortable walking with cultural immersion, taking us past terraced fields and small settlements.

We begin with a private drive from Kathmandu to Dhulikhel before setting off on foot toward Balthali. Along the way, we visit the significant Buddhist pilgrimage site of Namo Buddha, where we observe local monastic life and stupas set against the backdrop of the hills. The terrain consists of well-used footpaths, dirt tracks, and stone steps, making it suitable for walkers with a reasonable level of baseline fitness.

Evenings are spent at a local resort in Balthali, where we gather for meals and local hospitality. This itinerary provides a direct look at rural farming communities, local flora and fauna, and quiet ridge walks away from the congestion of the capital.
