Trip overview
We bring you along the historic trail of the Classic Everest Base Camp Trek, tracing the footsteps of early Himalayan expeditions. Rather than taking a short flight into Lukla, our journey begins with a scenic overland drive to Jiri and Bhandar, leading us on foot across the lower ridges of the Solukhumbu. This route allows our bodies to gradually adapt to the changing terrain while immersing us in the traditional farming and trading communities of the middle hills.
This trek suits experienced hikers and mountain walkers who possess good cardiovascular endurance and relish long consecutive days on foot. We pass through thick forests of Himalayan birch, rhododendron, and fir before climbing into the high-altitude zone of Sagarmatha National Park. The trail crosses suspension bridges, winds past ancient chortens, and visits spiritual landmarks such as the Tengboche Monastery.
Cultural encounters form a core component of this itinerary. We interact daily with Sherpa villagers who inhabit the valleys beneath towering peaks like Ama Dablam, Thamserku, and Lhotse. Our route includes planned acclimatisation days at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche, ensuring safe progression toward the high elevations of Gorakshep and the ultimate viewpoints at Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.
Expect physical challenges, particularly during the long ascents to Lamjura La Pass and the rocky moraines near the Khumbu Glacier. Weather in the mountains can change rapidly, and teahouse accommodations become more basic as we gain altitude. Our experienced guides manage the pace and daily logistics carefully to ensure a secure, rewarding expedition.

Good to know
Altitude & acclimatisation
We ascend to a maximum elevation of 5545 m at Kala Patthar. Our itinerary includes designated acclimatisation days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to allow physiological adjustment. Our lead guides monitor heart rates, oxygen saturation levels, and common symptoms of acute mountain sickness daily.
Physical fitness
This is a strenuous 20-day trek graded 6 to 7 out of 10. Daily walking stretches between five and eight hours over uneven stone steps, steep ascents, and high mountain passes. We recommend rigorous cardiovascular training, running, and weighted hill walking for several months prior to departure.
Accommodation on the trail
Teahouses along the Jiri and main Everest routes offer basic twin-share rooms furnished with wooden beds and foam mattresses. Dining areas are heated by central stoves, but individual bedrooms are unheated, requiring a warm sleeping bag rated to at least -15°C.
Weather conditions
Mountain weather changes quickly, bringing cold winds and dropping temperatures below freezing at high altitudes, especially at Gorakshep. Clear mornings are common during peak seasons, while clouds often build up by afternoon.

Frequently asked questions
Why choose the Jiri route instead of flying straight to Lukla?
The Jiri route provides a gradual physical buildup over several days in the lower Solukhumbu hills, reducing altitude sickness risks and offering a quieter cultural trail before joining the main Everest path at Puiyan.
What is the highest point reached on this trek?
The highest elevation on this itinerary is 5545 m at the summit of Kala Patthar, which we climb on Day 16 for panoramic views of Mount Everest and the Khumbu Glacier.
How do we handle altitude sickness on the trail?
Our guides carry medical kits and pulse oximeters, and our itinerary is specifically structured with rest days in Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to facilitate safe acclimatisation.
What kind of accommodation is available on the trek?
We stay in local teahouses offering twin-share rooms with basic wooden beds and shared washing facilities. Dining halls are communal and warmed by yak dung or wood stoves.
What are the weight limits for luggage on the trek?
Porters carry luggage on the trail with a weight limit of 10 kg per trekker. You also carry a daypack containing your water, rain gear, and warm layers.
Are charging and Wi-Fi available in the teahouses?
Basic electricity for charging devices and satellite Wi-Fi are available at most teahouses for an additional local fee, though reliability decreases at higher altitudes.
