At a glance
Trip overview
We lead this 15-day journey around the Annapurna massif, tracing ancient trading routes through the Marshyangdi and Kali Gandaki river valleys. Our route takes us from subtropical sub-montane forests up into high-altitude alpine zones, crossing the formidable Thorong La Pass at 5416 m.
This trek suits hikers with solid multi-day experience and good cardiovascular fitness who are prepared for consecutive days of ascent in thinning air. We encounter diverse ethnic communities along the trail, including Gurung, Thakali, and Manangi villagers who maintain traditional farming and trading practices in these high valleys.
The landscapes shift dramatically from terraced rice fields and cascading waterfalls to arid wind-sculpted canyons reminiscent of the Tibetan plateau. While the physical demands increase significantly above Manang, our itinerary incorporates structured acclimatisation days to help our team adapt safely to the elevation.

Good to know
Altitude & acclimatisation
We design our schedule with built-in rest days at Manang to mitigate acute mountain sickness. Our lead guides carry oximeters and monitor every team member's oxygen saturation levels daily.
Accommodation on the trail
We lodge in family-run mountain teahouses that provide twin-share rooms with basic wooden beds and foam mattresses. Dining areas are heated by central yak-dung or wood stoves in the evenings.
Physical preparation
We recommend starting cardiovascular training at least three months prior to departure, focusing on stair climbing, running, and weighted day-hikes to build leg strength.
Weather conditions
Mountain weather changes rapidly above 3000 m, bringing strong afternoon winds and sudden temperature drops below freezing at night. We carry proper rain and snow gear for all eventualities.
