Trip overview
We lead this 18-day climbing expedition up Chulu West, a prominent 6440 m peak situated within the Manang Himal range on the northern fringe of the Annapurna Circuit. This route combines high-altitude trekking with technical mountaineering, taking us through deep river gorges, alpine yak pastures, and high snow slopes.
This itinerary is designed for experienced mountaineers and fit trekkers who have prior high-altitude hiking experience and are comfortable using crampons, ice axes, and fixed ropes. We follow the standard Annapurna Circuit approach through Dharapani and Chame before branching off toward Ledar and establishing our base camp for the technical phases.
Our route rewards our efforts with sweeping views of Annapurna I, Annapurna II, Gangapurna, Manaslu, Himlung, and Thorong Peak. Because we ascend to over 5000 m for multiple nights, we build dedicated acclimatisation days into our schedule at Manang and our high camps to ensure our team adapts safely to the thinning air.

Frequently asked questions
What is the climbing difficulty of Chulu West?
Chulu West is classified as a fairly difficult peak climbing expedition. It requires solid physical fitness, prior high-altitude trekking experience, and basic mountaineering skills using crampons and ice axes.
Do I need prior climbing experience for Chulu West?
Yes. Unlike some non-technical trekking peaks in Nepal, Chulu West requires you to spend multiple nights above 5000 m and navigate steep snow and ice sections, so prior mountaineering training is essential.
What permits do I need for this climb?
You need an Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP), a Trekkers' Information Management System (TIMS) card, and the official Chulu West climbing permit issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association.
What is the success rate for Chulu West?
Our expedition success rate is very high due to careful itinerary planning, dedicated acclimatisation days, and experienced Sherpa guides leading the technical sections.
What kind of accommodation is provided?
We stay in standard teahouses along the Annapurna Circuit up to Ledar. Above Ledar, during the base camp and high camp phases, we use high-quality mountaineering tents.
