Our 46-day expedition to Broad Peak provides a structured pathway to the 8,000m tier through the Karakoram range.

At a glance

Trip overview

Broad Peak rises to 8,047 metres in the Karakoram range of northeastern Pakistan, serving as the twelfth highest mountain in the world. Named for its prominent two-kilometre-long summit ridge, the peak shares structural similarities with the European Alps' Breithorn and offers a logical stepping stone for mountaineers transitioning from 6,000m and 7,000m peaks to the 8,000m zone. Our team approaches the mountain via the Baltoro Glacier, passing through historical staging points such as Paiyu, Urdukas, and Concordia.

This 46-day itinerary is designed to give our team ample time for acclimatisation, rotation climbs, and weather windows. We maintain an independent approach to logistics, managing our own rope-fixing and camp establishment to ensure operational control from Islamabad to base camp and back.

Climbing Broad Peak requires established mountaineering competencies, including crampon technique on steep ice, glacier travel, and cold-weather management at high altitude. Daily movement averages five to six hours on trekking days, increasing significantly during summit rotation phases where physical stamina and mental focus are essential.

Good to know

Altitude & acclimatisation

Reaching 8,047m demands strict adherence to our acclimatisation schedule. We incorporate gradual ascents, rest days at base camp, and rotational climbs to higher camps to allow physiological adaptation before the summit attempt.

Previous experience required

This expedition is suited for climbers who have previously summited 6,000m and 7,000m peaks. Technical competency with crampons, fixed lines, ascenders, and high-altitude gear is mandatory.

Self-sufficiency & logistics

We maintain operational control over our climbs by fixing our own lines, pitching our own tents, and managing logistics directly. Participants should be prepared for the physical demands of high-altitude mountaineering.

Weather & conditions

Karakoram weather can shift rapidly, bringing high winds and snowfall to the upper mountain. We monitor forecasts continuously and maintain contingency days in the schedule to wait for safe climbing windows.
