We explore the ancient royal squares, intricate Newari woodcarvings, and living traditions of Bhaktapur and Patan on a private guided day tour.

At a glance

Trip overview

We lead this private cultural day tour to examine the architectural masterworks and medieval urban layouts of the Kathmandu Valley's two former independent kingdoms. Patan and Bhaktapur retain centuries-old palace complexes, stone shrines, and multi-tiered pagodas that survived historical earthquakes through traditional Newari craftsmanship. Our licensed cultural guide explains the intricate religious iconography and social history embedded in every courtyard and brick-paved alleyway.

This tour suits travelers interested in art history, medieval architecture, and living Hindu and Buddhist traditions who want a structured day away from the city center. We spend our time entirely on foot within the pedestrianized zones, navigating narrow passages that link royal courtyards, bustling marketplaces, and artisan workshops.

The walking is entirely urban and undemanding, though navigating uneven stone paving, steep palace staircases, and crowded temple steps requires basic mobility. We arrange private vehicle transport between Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur to maximize our time exploring the squares.
