At a glance

Trip overview

Our Annapurna Circuit Trek with Tilicho Lake combines the full circuit itinerary with a high-altitude diversion to one of the highest lakes in the world. This 16-day route is longer, more remote, and more physically demanding than the standard circuit, designed for trekkers who want complete altitude exposure without shortcuts. We navigate through five distinct terrain zones, moving from subtropical river valleys at 900 m into the high-altitude desert landscapes beyond Manang and Thorong La.

The route demands robust physical preparation and careful acclimatisation. From Dharapani, we follow the Marsyangdi River Valley upstream, ascending gradually past Chame, Pisang, and Ngawal before our scheduled rest day in Manang at 3,519 m. Beyond Manang, we leave the main trail to cross exposed scree slopes toward Siri Kharka and Tilicho Base Camp, before making our way to Tilicho Lake at 4,920 m. Returning to the main trail, we push over Thorong La Pass at 5,416 m and descend through Mustang into the Kali Gandaki Gorge.

Culturally, the trail transitions from Gurung and Magar farming villages in the lower river valleys to Tibetan-influenced settlements in the upper Manang and Mustang regions. We manage all logistics, select teahouses with acclimatisation schedules in mind, and monitor team health closely throughout the journey.

Before you go

Good to know

Altitude & acclimatisation

This trek ascends to 5,416 m at Thorong La Pass and includes a high detour to Tilicho Lake at 4,920 m. We incorporate a dedicated rest day in Manang and schedule gradual altitude gains to support safe acclimatisation.

Our lead guides monitor daily oxygen saturation levels and watch for early symptoms of acute mountain sickness. We maintain a flexible schedule to allow additional rest if any team member requires it.

Physical fitness requirements

This is a strenuous multi-day trek involving 6 to 9 hours of walking on steep, uneven terrain, scree slopes, and high passes. Participants should have prior high-altitude hiking experience and maintain strong cardiovascular endurance.

Carrying a daypack while managing sustained ascents requires both leg strength and mental resilience. We recommend a structured training programme focused on hiking and stair climbing for several months prior to departure.

Teahouse accommodation

Along the trail, we stay in family-run lodges known as teahouses. Rooms are typically twin-share with wooden beds, foam mattresses, and simple blankets.

Facilities become more basic as we gain elevation, with shared bathroom facilities and unheated dining rooms. Charging devices and hot showers generally carry an extra local fee.

Weather conditions

Mountain weather is highly unpredictable, shifting rapidly from clear morning skies to afternoon wind, cloud cover, or snowfall at higher altitudes. Temperatures at night drop well below freezing, particularly above Manang and around Tilicho Base Camp.

We carry appropriate communication gear and monitor meteorological updates closely to ensure safe passage over Thorong La Pass.
