Trip overview
Our eight-day itinerary brings us to the foot of Mt. Amadablam, widely regarded as one of the most striking rock and ice walls in the Himalaya. Rising to 6812 m, this peak anchors the Khumbu region and holds deep cultural significance for the Sherpa communities who inhabit its lower slopes. We designed this route to step away from the main trunk of the Everest Base Camp trail, offering a quieter approach while maintaining proper acclimatisation standards.
We begin our walking journey from Phakding after our flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, climbing steadily through pine forests and suspension bridges draped in prayer flags toward Namche Bazaar. Our acclimatisation day includes walks up to the Everest View Hotel and Khumjung village before we push deeper into the alpine zone. Crossing the Dudh Koshi river and ascending past Tengboche Monastery, we base ourselves in Pangboche to launch our push toward the base camp.
The hike to Amadablam Base Camp reaches a maximum elevation of 4600 m, where we encounter international expedition teams preparing for technical ascents. We return to the comfort of teahouses each night rather than camping on the moraine, minimizing altitude risks while maximizing our time in the high alpine amphitheatre. This trek suits hikers with previous high-altitude experience who seek a rigorous shorter itinerary in the Sagarmatha National Park.

Good to know
Altitude & acclimatisation
We reach a maximum altitude of 4600 m at Amadablam Base Camp. Our itinerary includes an acclimatisation day in Namche Bazaar and gradual elevation gains to mitigate acute mountain sickness.
Accommodation on the trail
We house you in twin-share teahouses along the route. Facilities are comfortable in the lower valleys and become more basic as we gain altitude.
Flight delays in Lukla
Mountain weather frequently impacts flights between Kathmandu or Ramechhap and Lukla. We advise adding extra buffer days to your international travel schedule.
Drinking water
We recommend treating all tap or stream water using purification tablets or drops purchased in Kathmandu. Bottled water generates unnecessary plastic waste in the national park.
